poker play

my roommates enjoy playing texas hold 'em. like many college kids, i went through a phase (about 2 years ago) where it became an obsession of mine. i then lost interest. as a way of bonding, and form of mutual communication, i decided to start playing at these sunday afternoon gatherings where a large serving of pasta is followed by some fresh gelato.

to be honest- the majority of these italian players are terrible. especially the women. they make little effort to hide any emotion when winning a hand, or dealt a bad one. if luck wasn't such a big factor, the little that i do remember about odds and what hands to press with, i would clean up at every sitting.

i still haven't done a bad job (with an average 8 to 10 players) i have finished 4th, 3rd, 2nd, and won once. i normally lose based on bad luck, not playing a bad hand (like when i was young and dumb). anyway, if you come to italy and are asked to play hold 'em (and have ANY knowledge of poker at all) take them up on it. show them how americans roll.
