At an Industry Event, a Sense That the Gloom Is Lifting

A JOB IS JOB ONE In an event that crossed “The Apprentice” with “American Idol,” four fledgling mad men — and women — landed monthlong internships with leading agencies by winning a contest called the Big Ad Gig.

The four were among eight finalists who presented to a panel of judges ideas for a campaign for the American Heart Association, promoting hands-only cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Abraham Truzman, 30, a copywriter, won an internship with Crispin Porter & Bogusky, part of MDC Partners, and his campaign will be produced by the heart association and the Advertising Council in media donated by Microsoft.

The other winners were: Matt Koulermos, 23, who will intern at Ogilvy & Mather Worldwide, part of WPP: Anna Lippert, 31, Atmosphere Proximity; and Jaime Walker, 28, Saatchi & Saatchi Wellness, part of the Saatchi & Saatchi unit of the Publicis Groupe.

“Creating opportunities for talented young people is one of the best things about this industry,” said Chuck Porter, co-chairman at Crispin Porter and chairman of Advertising Week, who watched the contest. “This is a really cool way to highlight that.”
